The Run

2 Hours. That's how long it took me ( and my officemates ) to finish 5k. Haha. I think it's acceptable naman for first time runners like us ( reasons..reasons ). :) The boys though kept on trying to impress us pero napagod din sila kakatakbo in the end.

I still can't believe though that i enjoyed walking.. este "running". Maybe because you're doing it along with thousands of participants. There were lots of students from different Universities, it was also fun to gaze at families along with their kids who are enjoying the experience. My head nga lang kept on turning 360 degrees looking for celebrities ( unsuccesful, hindi ko nakita si Papa P. ). They also gave away free laundry soap and bottled juice for participants.

Here are some of the pics.

Picture picture before the run
I love how we captured the moving "runners" behind us

I think this group is from UST

This is just one of the many captured moments of us "walking" :)
Felt like heaven when I saw the Finish Line!

Funny. After a long and tiring run, we decided to eat a hot La Paz Batchoy at Teds. Swak na Swak sa tagaktak na pawis diba? Lol. That's also because almost everyone was at MOA after the run, so almost all of the kainan were full. No choice kami.

Overall, It was fun and I give kudos to the organizers for this succesful event. Sad nga lang since there were only 80k participants this year compared to the 110k who joined in 2010. Oh well, I don't think naman that the "Guinness Book of World Record" is important. As long as we helped get funding to improve our poor Pasig River. Sana sa Pasig River project nga lahat mapunta ang money. Just sayin! :)

Getting ready to Run for the Pasig River!

Our company conducts a Make a Difference campaign twice a year wherein we visit different institutions or host a party for our less fortunate kababayans. It's really one of the things I admire the most in our company, that is the value of sharing and giving back. This time around, we will go environmental! Yes! We will be joining the run for the Pasig River on Nov 20th! We'll register for the 5k run which is just perfect for starters like most of us. Goodluck to us! :)

It's my first time to join a fun/charity run although I've been wanting to join ever since nauso sya. Haha. Now im really excited! And to show my excitement, I bought a new pair of shoes. Hehe. Actually, I didn't want to buy it at first kasi I still have my almost brand new asics running shoes I bought pa in the US but Rj insisted since it was on sale and it really looked good on me daw. Naks.

it's so cute!!!

Now i don't have any pagsisisi that i bought this pair.. Parang it makes me feel inspired to seriously work out.. haha.. ows?? hindi kapanipaniwala..

Wish me luck!!!

Early All Saints' Day

We spent all Sunday at the Manila Memorial Park ( then Golden Haven after ) to visit Mamang and Angkong ( mama's parents ) because we don't want to spend All Saint's jam-packed on Nov 1st. And as usual, our day was full of tsismisan and tawanan and mostly making fun of the kids. haha.. here are pics and as always, the kids are the highlights of the day.

Hope you all had a happy Halloween and a safe All Saint's Day!

It's my 3rd Halloween at CSG and it's been a routine to dress up the office depending on the theme of the year, and since lagi namin itong kinacareer.. we've been hitting 1st prize for 2 years in a row now.
Just to show you how good and talented we are haha.. look at what we did 2 years ago..
And our Halloween "Peter Pan" theme in 2010 looks like this:

Rj even won the Best Costume Award! Effortless ang pagigigng pirate dba? hahaha

For 2011, I think this is the best we've had so far at todo effort talaga ang lahat ng tao. Our Theme this year was the movie " UP"
And just like the usual.. we got 1st prize again! :)
Happy Halloween everyone!

Rj's DIY Project: Part I

When it comes to his gym equipment, Rj has his own DIY ( Do-it-yourself ) projects. This time around, he decided to take down his old speed ball frame and initially planned to buy an Everlast frame from a sulit.com seller. On our way to the meet up place, we opt to first drop by at this wood shop near our place and looked around. There we saw really good pieces of furniture from wooden doors to wooden bed frames and headboards, wooden chairs, cabinets, console tables and round dining tables. Rj is looking for a round piece of really durable wood and saw the lazy susan laying lazily ( haha ) on top of the dining table, it fits perfectly to the size Rj wanted and really looked sturdy. Lucky us, we were able to buy it separately from the dining table at a really worthy and inexpensive price!

So here’s how the story of this DIY goes…

The bonggang lazy susan...

The wood shop was an old chapel.. eeeeeck.. scary dba? All the manongs made kwento that they sometimes hear someone crying at night..

Now that's a proof that this place was a chapel.. see angels?

manong and manang ( one in orange - yep! she's a lesbian) working on making the lazy susan perfect for the ever OC Rj! :)

Believe it or not, Rj did this ( pagliliha of the lazy susan) too many times. AS IN. I told you he is very very OC. very much.

We went to a Welding Shop for the frame - designed by Rj

Just look at that! Nice dba? Rj totally loves it! And i'm glad that it makes him inspire to go back to his old workout regimen!

So there. That's just the first among the numerous DIYs Rj is creating. Maybe you can share this with your gym lover husbands too!

Pic of Rj playing with his new project coming up really soon!

Meet Manong, our 70 yr old Sofa Maker

Hi Fans.. hehehe

That’s Manong, our mabait and masipag na sofa maker. Manong also refurbished the sofa of Tita Josie ( Rj’s mom) and since his works met Tita’s standards, she recommended him to us. Very masipag and malakas pa si manong inspite his age. He said that he’s been in the sofa-making industry since his early 20’s. Imagine.. almost 50 years na syang gumagawa ng mga sofa kaya naman I have high expectations of him! Lagot ka manong, spell P-r-e-s-s-u-re!

Pero since we’re refurbishing 3 pieces of chunky sofas, medyo kawawa naman si manong and he can’t do it alone so his son ( who is also a sofa maker in Saudi.. chochal dba?! ) and his apo are helping him out.

So far, here are the pics of our fab sofa @ works..

Manong and his apo Sorry if you can’t see their faces.. naka focus kasi ako masyado sa sofa. Hehe

looks ugly now I know, but wait ‘til it’s done!

Here’s the dark brown colored leatherette that we will be using. I Love it. I think it fits the color of the wall and the Amorsolo painting.

3 more days to go and I can’t wait to see the finish product! Make me proud Manong!

New Sofa.. coming soon at last!

I wanted a new sofa soooo bad and have been making bulong to Rj non-stop to ask ( or even plead ) his mom if we can have it refurbished or just buy a new one. You see, Rj has been living in this house for sooo long ( 12/13 years I think ) and I’ve been living with him and the kids for almost 4 years now. The house is owned by his mom and step-dad so of course, I rarely make pakialam of the furnitures specially when it comes to changing the color or disposing or refurbishing or whatever. But since we can now afford to finance our kaartehan in making the house prettier.. his mom lets us decide na on things ( Thanks tita! ) so unti unti nang lumalabas ang nagmamaganda at nagfeeling na designer instincts ko at ofcourse hindi na ko nagtumpik tumpik pa at pinuntirya agad ang sofa!

The old sofa was ok.. un nga lang nagbakbak na the leather so kita na ung ibang foam and the bottom has all the ngatngat na of our mababait na alagang mickey mouse. That’s why it was a necessity na to change it. I was the one who chose the color of the leatherette ( ayaw kasi ni rj ng tela, dumihin daw ) that we will use.. I chose dark brown, by the way kasi when you have kids around ( even if they’re 14 and 9 already ) hindi pa rin maiiwasan madumihan ung gamit and it will really make me sooo mad when I see one bit of stain on the new sofa ( feeling OC naman talaga tayo specially when the furniture is new dba?! Kung pwede lang I plastic cover ko gagawin ko para lang hindi madumihan for some time )… so it’s leatherette and it’s dark brown.. Manong, our 70 years old ( oo, 70 na si lolo pero in fairness malakas at malinaw pa ang paningin ) sofa-maker started to demolish ( demolish? Ano toh building?! ) the old sofa and will use some parts of it to build the new one. Exciting!

So now I can’t stop my kiti kiting utak to think of a style that is perfect for us: it should be MODERN, should have ENOUGH SITTING and of course COMFY. SO far, here are the styles that I picked:

( this is supposed to be L-shaped kasi un ang bagay sa house.. it looks soo nice and there’s a mini side table where we can maybe put the phone and a long slim vase and a classic picture frame.. ganda dba? )

( this one naman looks modern and it looks clean kaya lang parang hindi masyadong malambot ang cusion kaya nagdadalawang isip ako )

( this one definitely looks comfy, and since we chose dark brown for our brand new sofa, this makes me imagine how the real sofa would look like )

I find all these 3 pretty naman and met one or two of the standards I’m looking for. What I’m actually thinking is maybe we can incorporate na lang the bits and pieces on each design and apply it on our sofa! Like, the mini side table concept of the 1st one, the length and stylishness of the 2nd and the comfy cushions of the 3rd.. whatcha think? Good idea ba? hmmm.. I’ll try to look for more pa so we have more options.. I’ll post pics of manong demolishing the sofa a little later ( nasa office pa ko eh.. hehe ) …

Who is deserving?

I didn't get into the top 12 ( very beauty pageant naman ang dating ) for the Lasik giveaway.. sad kasi I'm sure my dad would be really happy to get the surgery. But after reading through all the entries of the top 12 chosen entries , I realized na maybe they really need it more than me. Sabi din siguro ni lord.. hellooo anim kayong magkakapatid aba pagipunan niyo no! hehe

Here are the Top 12 candidates and a little insight of why they need the surgery..

Tia - second year medical student, she broke her eyeglasses and her dad had to fix it with a screw driver.

Elsie Quinto – she doesn’t have facebook and had hesitations of joining, but when I changed the mechanics she joined for her 56 year old social worker mother.

Ramon Monteclaro Sawit – now in his 50’s and would like to be able to say “why did I wait so long.” To prove that it’s never too late.

Lara Gozum – single mother of 7year old, wrote a short entry with no drama. She has astigmatism and her prescription goes as high as 875.

Cris Pablico-Alano – new mom to a 6 month old baby, she joined last year’s LASIK giveaway too, now trying her luck again. She wants to be able to breastfeed her baby without having to look for her glasses first.

Che – for her 59 year old father who she promised to help. They are now focusing on helping him get dentures.

Karla F Santos – she’s been wearing glasses since she was 6 y.o. and she has delivered 3 babies via CS while not wearing glasses. She wasn’t even able to see the faces of her babies clearly.

Hazel T – 33 year old mother of a 5 y.o. son. A recent cancer survivor.

Ria Cabral dela Cruz – for her husband she calls Mr Frugal. He hasn’t changed his eye glasses in over 8 years.

Gerry Torres – works in design and art. Has had many fears including LASIK. He just conquered his fear of driving and said “why did I wait so long?” Funny stories about contact lenses flying off and getting lost inside his eye. I can relate to everything he said.

Thysz – short entry but said he sees the world in “bokeh” haha.

Kristine Santos – OFW from Libya, now home after losing their work due to conflict in Libya.

Nakakalungkot kasi only one of them has the chance to win the 100k worth of Lasik Surgery ( sana ung cancer survivor ) but I really wish them all good luck!

As for me.. oh well.. better luck next time! :)

Contest: Free LASIK Surgery

I don't get tired of joining contests, even if i really haven't won anything ( YET.. ika nga, habang may buhay may pagasa ), waiting and wondering if I won and imagining what I'll do with the prizes still excites me ( tapos tsaka ako malulugmok sa lungkot kapag hindi pangalan ko ang makita ko). :) But the most recent contest I joined is different, it is quite important and I am really hoping that I'll win this time. I won't benefit from the prize rather I'm doing it for my dad.

So without further ado..

"American Eye Center is giving away ONE FREE LASIK SURGERY to one of my readers. This is completely transferrable. So you can give the gift of seeing to someone you care about. And let’s say you win but you end up not qualified for the surgery (there’s a barrage of tests you have to go through), you can give the chance to someone else. If you want to know more about the procedure and American Eye Center, please follow EyeTweets on Twitter."

So one of the ways to win is to leave a comment on Ms. Daphne's blog and tell your story why you want to win the prize, here's my entry:

"I want this so bad because I am sure that my dad will want it, need it, love it, use it, cherish it and will really really be thankful for it. All I simply want, is for my dad to have a clear vision for him to see how beautiful his grandkids are, to be able to play with them day and night, to run with them, teach them how to bike, teach them how to be a handyman like him. A clear vision for him means more weekends to play tennis, more mornings to (easily ) read the daily newspaper, more surprise celebrations we will throw for him, more chances to be the man-of-all-work he's always been and just more years to see all our happy faces.

It breaks my heart just thinking that one day.. he won't be able to see me, my mom, my siblings, my nephews and niece and my future baby. I am a daddy's girl and that fact is just not acceptable. Winner or not, I know that I will try all my best to save up for whatever surgery he needs for his eyes, I know that it will take me long, but still, I will. But getting it for free NOW, it will for sure be God's will and my dad will then be one lucky man."

Ang drama diba? haha.. pero totoo yan and I really poured my heart out in writing it.. so guys wish me luck! Sana mapasali ako sa 12 contestants and I will need all your likes pag nagkataon!!!

Why “ My Trek thru Life”?

I named this blog “ My Trek thru Life” and here are just some of the reasons why:

· This can’t be “Lhai the Mommy blog” - Most blogs I am following and avidly
reading are mommy blogs, it’s because I am strongly influenced to blog by my
yet another mommy sister Shirley of lifetimeoftogetherness. I sometimes feel
nga na when the right time comes and I become a mommy myself, I would be sooo
ready na by reading all their mommy stories ( I guess but I don’t think
so).. so when that time comes, I will call this “My trek Thru Mommyland” na..
J

· This can’t be a beauty blog – I am a woman and I am kikay just like everyone
else in the universe. I strongly believe that all girls are made kikay, as in every
single one of us has our own kakikayan within.. I love reading beauty blogs
just like Beauty for a Living but I am not ( yet ) experimental when it comes to using any kind of products that I am not really familiar of and have been using the same set of products for the past years so making this “ My Trek thru Kikayland” wouldn’t work..

· This can’t be a travel blog – I am an avid reader of Travel footprints and as much as
I want to travel at least 2 or 3 times a year ( locally and internationally ), I just can’t find a suitable time to do it and my finances wouldn’t let me either.. Maybe when the time comes that I can manage my finances better than now ( I hope soon!!! ) ..this will be named “ My Trek thru Traveland”.. can’t wait!

· This can’t be a food blog – I am a big big fan of Casa Venaracion and have been
dying to try some of her recipes myself.. but since I work at night and too
tired to cook when I get home in the morning.. our kasambahay is always on the rescue and do it for me. although I try to cook one or two dishes during weekends or whenever Rj requests his favorite sinigang or adobo made specially by me. So when I find
more time to cook, I will surely blog it and will make this “ My Trek thru Foodland”… sounds yummy already..
J

· This can’t be a pangkabuhayan blog – Although I’ve been thinking of venturing into a
business soon ( something with low capital start-up ), I am still thinking what
to sell, who to sell it to and where to sell it… and once the planning starts, I will surely share it which will my everyday life sound like “ My trek thru Negosyoland”…

Those are the top 5 reasons why this can’t be a specific blog.. I just write anything and everything I can think of.. anything and everything that I do, think of and imagine everyday! J

Topics?

Since we just started Microsoft FY12 ( FY- Fiscal Year, they start in July and ends in June ).. mejo petiks mode pa ko kasi the client has not yet set up a meeting to talk about the plans for this year.. so while at the office, I get to enjoy some time writing/blogging.. :)

And what’s there to write about? Mejo boring ang buhay ko kasi office-bahay-office, mall during weekends lang ang drama ko every single day so I don’t really have much to share kaya I decided to make gaya what my sister Shirley of lifetimeoftogetherness and Mommy Fleur wrote on their blogs ( although hindi consistent.. hehe peace! ). But since I am the most lazy blogger around, I won’t make it a daily blog.. I will just pick random topics on the list and just write whichever topic I feel like sharing for the day..

So Here are the topics, I highlighted those I find really interesting and will start blogging about them really soon .. :)

Sunday is Transformers day!

We don't usually go out to watch a movie, unless the movie is really really good and whenever people make chismis about how good to watch it in a moviehouse (syempre maiinggit ka dba)! And ofcourse transformers is an exemption! It's the last of the sequel so it would be worth to watch it in the big screen. It wouldn't be fun to buy a dvd pirated copy like what we've been used to,(oops to mtrcb hehe ) even if it means sitting comfortably at the couch with popcorn, pizza and cold soda. The 3d effects wouldn't be that good for sure kht pa sobrang clear ng copy ng dvd. Watching it in the Big screen with people laughing and oooh-ing and wow-ing with you is the best way to go!

So i look forward to a movie date with rj and the kids on sunday!

Surprise!

When we initially planned to surprise my mom and dad to celebrate their upcoming birthdays ( and Fathers’ day ), I thought we won’t make it without saying a word because we’re not really good in keeping those kind of secrets ( specially me, hehe ) . . so I still can’t believe that for the entire 2 weeks of our preparation, no one said a word about it and we were all able to keep our mouth shut ( along with our Tita Ne, mom’s eldest sister, as a kuntsaba ). 

We were supposed to celebrate it at my parent’s house in Laguna, but my mom and her sisters needed to talk about something important and decided to meet up in Festival Mall Alabang so we then decided to just celebrate it at Max’s Restaurant ( which is my dad’s fave ). I got a little emotional when I saw how surprised my parents were to see all 6 of us children complete ( which now very seldom happens  ) with their 4 apo’s in tow. The madramang reunion of Cassandra and Cedric to Papa and Loli was very heartfelt and still makes my heart melt.

Seeing my parents’ joyful faces makes me realize how much more surprises I want to give them, how much more I want to provide for them and give everything they need, how I want to make their everyday as happy and as relaxing as that day was, and just spend more quality time with them. But since they are used to me breaking almost all of my promises …. I’ll just DO what I can and will lessen the I PROMISE part of it.

So there, our first ever Surprise party was a success! Many more to come!

Happy Birthday Papa and Mama! I wish both of you good health, much much more blessings and longer life!!! Love you both!
